Chocolate Bread Can be Addictive

Chocolate Bread can be Addictive

Have you had chocolate bread yet?  If not, try some; it’s delicious. Chocolate bread can be very addictive once you discover it.

Different Kinds of Chocolate Bread

Fortunately, there are many kinds of chocolate bread to enjoy. There’s apricot chocolate bread, chocolate coconut bread, chocolate marrow bread, chocolate American bread, chocolate babka bread, chocolate tea bread, chocolate walnut bread, and still other chocolate bread favors.

These chocolate breads can be eaten alone or with jams, butter, or other toppings. They can be toasted, but if you like it firm and decadently raw you can also eat it way too. They're decadent because many recipes for chocolate bread include chunks of bittersweet or semisweet chocolate scattered throughout the bread.

These dense pieces of chocolate complement the tender texture of the bread, which is also chocolate favored. It’s like eating chocolate twice, but with different intensities of chocolate. You can even eat it with a chocolate topping but they may be too much of a good thing for some folks.

When’s it best to Eat Chocolate Bread?

When is the best time to eat chocolate bread? Really anytime, but I think it makes a great snack treat. It’s also great toasted for breakfast. Don’t toast it in a regular toaster if the bread has chocolate chunks; the chocolate will run. I toast chocolate bread that doesn’t have chocolate chunks in it.

What can be put on toasted chocolate bread?

Whatever you like - experiment with what tastes good to you. I like certain jam favors on the toasted chocolate bread and sometimes just a little butter.
Chocolate bread is great fun for children. They love eating it and when you tell them they can have chocolate bread they get excited really fast. I enjoy hearing them say I’ve found the chocolate chunks.

Often people will find chocolate bread on menus in restaurants or they will buy it at local bakeries or online, but you can make it too if you have time.  I’ve included a simple recipe below for you.  I hope you enjoy it.

Chocolate Bread Recipe
Ingredients:

1/3 cup water, ½ teaspoon sugar, and 2 ½ teaspoons dry yeast
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa
1/2 cup plus 1 tablespoon sugar
4 1/2 cups flour
1 1/4 cups warm water and 2 teaspoons salt
1 cup semisweet chocolate chopped chunks
1 egg plus 1 tablespoon water (mixed)

Cooking Instructions:

Mix the 1/2 teaspoon sugar and yeast into the 1/3 cup water then pour into a large mixing bowl; let it stand for about 10 minutes

Stir the remaining 1 1/4 cups water into the dissolved yeast mix.  Mix together the cocoa, sugar, flour and salt in a separate bowl. Then blend it into the yeast mixture. Stir in the chopped chocolate into this combined mix. If you want to toast the bread later, don’t include the chocolate chunks.

Knead floured dough mix on a lightly floured surface until smooth for about 10 minutes. Put the kneaded dough into a greased bowl, cover with a wrap and let it rise for approximately 1 hour. It should be twice its size at the end of the hour.

Put the risen dough on a lightly floured surface, knead it down and divide it in half. Take each half and make your loaves.  Put the loaves on a sheet covered with parchment paper. Cover again with plastic wrap. Let it rise until it’s doubled its size.

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.Generously brush the loaves with the egg wash and bake the loaves in a 425 degree oven for 10 minutes.  Reduce the heat to 350 degrees and bake for 30 more minutes.

Let the loaves cool. To help the loaves keep their shape, cool them in the pan for another 10 minutes.

If there are any chocolate bread leftovers, they can be reheated in a microwave or toasted carefully in a toasted as long as they don’t include chocolate chunks in them.
