As the season gets cooler and we think about finding comforting ways to stay warm, I can’t help but think of making hot chocolate. I like a rich foamy gourmet-like hot chocolate to keep me warm and treat me for embracing the new season.
There are so many kinds of hot chocolate now to enjoy – Italian hot chocolate, Mexican hot chocolate, hot chocolate made with white chocolate, decadent hot chocolate and so many others. Some hot chocolate recipes call for semisweet or bittersweet chocolate; while others call for using cocoa powder. Some require just milk, while others call for cream or half and half.
Each recipe offers something unique but all are ways to enjoy a variation of the classic hot chocolate taste. I like rich foamy hot chocolate, which uses real chocolate and half and half plus milk. Yes it’s rich, but it’s still fast and easy to make.
The recipe I’m going to share with you takes only about 8 - 10 minutes to make and tastes so chocolaty good. It has two kinds of chocolate, two kinds of sugar, milk and half and half in it. So it’s nice and rich. I think you will enjoy it, but as I always say experiment with it – try new ways to delight your palate with each recipe. I hope this one delights you.
1 ½ cups of half and half
1 ½ cups of milk
1 ½ ounces of semisweet chocolate (chopped)
1 ½ ounces of unsweetened chocolate (chopped)
10 teaspoons of sugar
1 ½ tablespoons of brown sugar
3/4 teaspoon of vanilla
Put half and half, milk, semisweet and unsweetened chocolate, sugar and brown sugar in a saucepan.
Heat on low heat until the sugar dissolves and the chocolates melt.
Take off heat and put one half into a blender to foam it.
Then take the foamy chocolate and put it back in the saucepan with the rest of the hot chocolate and blend in the vanilla.
Briefly stir this delicious mixture, and then serve. Enjoy!
